Where the Maternity Session Takes Place!

Your Session can take place either in the comfort and privacy of your own home, or on-location depending on the vision you prefer. Many clients choose an in-home experience if they prefer a more intimate session with the ability to do a bit more showing off the belly. A solid white tank top with simple underwear, airy lingerie, femininely form fitting dresses, or layered pieces all look fantastic in your home environment. If you prefer an on-location Session, we will work together to determine the best location based on the vision you had in mind. We can do anything from an open grassy field, to textured and urban, to layered and woodsy – whatever you like! I know…

that some mamas are hesitant about having maternity photos taken because they aren’t sure how they will look in them. Your body is going through a transformation, and you may not feel like your usual self. However, it is an absolute fact that carrying a child is one of the most beautiful things in the world, and that oh-so-limited timeframe should be documented before it’s gone forever. I promise to pose and direct you in a way that will accentuate your own beauty surrounding the joy of that growing baby, and fully illustrate just how glowing and radiant you are. Just smile, mama – you got this!

When is the best time to schedule a session?

Maternity sessions are typically done between 29 and 36 weeks. The timing is different for everyone and we recommend that you don’t wait too late because you will never know when the baby will actually come. It’s never too early to schedule your maternity session. Sometimes I can accommodate last minute requests, but I recommend a 4- 6 week notice.

What to wear during the Photos?

It’s not always easy for an expecting mom to figure out what to wear for her maternity photo session. What she wears is a very important part of the maternity shoot and most importantly she should be comfortable…with a bit of style of course! One thing to keep in mind is for her to dress simple too. The main focus should be her, her glow and her belly. Here are a few suggestions that make for a perfect shoot!

Maternity Ward Robe Tips!

What happens during a session?

What happens after the session?

1. A SOLID COLOR TANK TOP. A solid tank top works great to show off the shape of her belly. This always looks great with a skirt or skinny jeans.

2. A LONG SKIRT OR DRESS THAT IS TIGHTER FITTING AROUND THE BELLY. A long skirt or dress that is tight fitting – so that again, her shape will show. Be careful that skirts and dresses aren’t too loose as it may make her figure seem larger than she is. Pregnant women tend to feel heavier as it is and this can add pounds if it doesn’t fit right. 3. A POP OF COLOR IS GREAT TO ADD DIMENSION AND LIFE TO THE PHOTOS. I suggest staying away from prints or patterns as they may take away from the main subject. I like to ask what their favorite color is and what colors go well with their skin tone. Usually most women have a favorite color to wear so that is always a perfect option! This shirt is perfect for her shape and the belt above her belly keeps it in the right place.

4. IF SHE WANTS TO SHOW THE BARE BELLY, A TANK TOP ROLLED UP ABOVE HER BELLY OR A BANDEAU IS PERFECT FOR THIS. Not all are wanting to show their belly, but usually by the end of the session I suggest just doing one or two. I let them know that if they don’t like it no problem But, they almost always end up really liking it and ordering those specific shots.

5. MANY TIMES THE CLIENTS WILL HAVE A THOUGHT OF WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO WEAR. If it works, go with it. I always suggest bringing a few options. Sometimes just adding a piece of jewelry or a simple prop can really change up the look and feel of the photo. Some of my favorite sessions are maternity shoots. You can feel their excitement mixed in with a little bit of nervousness. Just remember to keep styling simple so that her excitement really shines in the photos! Have fun!

Maternity sessions typically take 60 -90 minutes. We do either several locations within walking distance of each other or several different backdrops indoors. If you would like to change outfits during the session, usually time for “3” looks. Focus of the session is on you, but your partner and children are welcome to be part of it.

Your session will be relaxed, laid back and not rushed. I will take some time in the beginning of the session to let you know how the session will go as far as posing and interacting with your significant other or children. If there are children in the session with you, I will take some time to get to know them so they do not think of me as a stranger but as a friend. Some children need a little more time to warm up to someone with a giant camera taking their picture. I will try to incorporate some fun games so they are having fun and not focusing on having their picture taken. I will not force them to do anything they do not want to do. Any session that include children will always go smoother if children are allowed to be children. Their experience is just as important as yours and I want you to be relaxed and not worry about kids misbehaving. During your session I will do some posing so you do not have to wonder how to stand or where to put your hands. If your significant other or children are in the pictures with you, then I will have you interact with each other. This allows me to capture real emotions and expressions. It is the little moments between each other that makes a great image that you will end up loving forever. Besides it is all bout having fun together and a great experience!

Once the session is over, you will receive a sneak peek of what we accomplished! Usually within 72 hours, a sneak peak will be posted. With your consent, these are shared on my Facebook business page, so make sure to like it to receive updates.

After your session, I will go over when you can expect your online gallery for viewing and ordering prints. You will receive a link to your private online gallery with a password 2-3 weeks after the date of your session. This is where you can view your images online, download any digital files and order any prints. This online gallery will only be available to you for 30 days. After the 30 days, your gallery will expire and you will no longer be able to order prints or digital files. Any items you purchase such as prints, CD of digital files, press printed items or anything else, you should expect to receive them 2-3 weeks after your gallery has posted or from the date you ordered your items. Now all you have to do is enjoy your images and your new bundle of joy! If you need help for where to place images in your home or on your walls with what looks best, I would be happy to help! Just ask!

How to book your session?

Booking:

To book, simply contact me either via email, face book business page, or my website! A non-refundable down payment is required to hold your spot, which will be applied towards the Session balance. A signed Contract & Client Information Form will also need to be filled out at the time of booking before a date is scheduled into my calendar.

Before:

I suggest reviewing my portfolio to see if anything inspires you, and even have a handy-dandy Pinterest board filled with outfit inspiration for both types of Sessions. I am willing to help you plan as much or as little as you need: from hair, to makeup, to wardrobe – I’m your gal.

During:

Maternity Sessions usually last 1-1½ hours and are meant to be fun! You are welcome to include spouses/partners/children within your Session, or have it simply revolve around just you for once. Nothing is ever stiff or formal with me, so expect that we will get a little chatty, and pretty soon, any potential nerves will melt away. We laugh. We talk. I’ll probably fix your hair at least 27.4 times and ask you to humor me for “just one more idea.” I’m telling you – it’s fun stuff.

After:

Once the session is over, you will receive a sneak peek of what we accomplished! At your consent, these are shared on my Facebook business page, so make sure to like it to receive updates. About 3 weeks after our Session, you will get a pretty little email in your inbox that contains a link to your password protected online gallery so you can view your images. From the gallery you can place a print order from my professional lab, as well as share it with family and friends to gush over your adorable baby bump!
